A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and wounded a man in New York City on Thursday, prompting New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani to demand an end to ICE enforcement operations in the city.
Mamdani said preliminary information indicated that law enforcement officers surrounded the man in the Marble Hill residential area of the Bronx before firing multiple shots.
Mamdani stated that a 5-year-old child was inside the man's vehicle, and officials determined the child was not injured.
The New York Police Department said the shooting occurred at approximately 4 p.m. The man was conscious and receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
In a statement, Mamdani said: "This is an outrageous and extremely serious incident. I have called the President, and during that call I will demand that he terminate all ICE enforcement operations in this city."
