0604 GMT - Federal Reserve governor Christopher Waller is "probably the most important person to listen to after [Chairman Kevin] Warsh," and his comments underpin Jefferies's expectations of unchanged rates at the September FOMC meeting, global economist Mohit Kumar says in a note. "Waller's comments support our view that the Fed will not hike rates at least till the mid-terms," he says. Waller said during a virtual event hosted by Reuters on Thursday that he would support holding interest rates steady if August inflation data backs it up. "Fed's Waller set the tone for markets by hinting that he would vote to keep rates unchanged if inflation data continues to improve," Kumar says.
